Dr. Tiffany D. Tyson is a native of Wilson, North Carolina. She is the lead clinical doctorate psychiatric nurse practitioner of the OIC Behavioral Health Department. Currently, she treats adolescents and adults with behavioral health conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, insomnia, PTSD, Schizophrenia, and other various behavioral health disorders. She is board certified in family practice as well as behavioral health.
During her graduate studies, she noticed a great need for motivation and mentorship to teens, minority youth, and young women. She began a mentoring program at Forest Hills Middle School in Wilson, NC, under the Principal’s leadership, Mrs. Melissa Dancy. The mentoring program increased self-esteem, provided leadership skills, promoted healthy eating and fitness, and introduced the young women to positive local female leaders. She later would start her company Tyson Multimedia Inc. that uses STEAM (science, technology engineering, art, math, and music) to empower the youth in the surrounding communities.
Her call to motivate others has also led to a career in academia as an Assistant Professor in Nursing at UNC Pembroke. Her professional efforts have been recognized by Who is Who Cambridge Professional, National Associations for Professional Women of the Year, and she was Commencement speaker at Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education. She is the Director for the North Carolina President Biden Lifetime Achievement Awards and an Honoree.
Dr. Tyson is a serial innovator, author, and social activist. She has written three books for teens and children. Her book, Patti Fix it Billy the Bully, has been recognized by Congressman G. K. Butterfield as an excellent guide that empowers youth with a multicultural presence. She is two time Amazon Best Seller with her anthologies Reclaiming My Life and After the Storm. She is a podcast host for the show Reclaiming My Life. She has been featured in and on local, regional, and national media, including Black Issues Forum, Power Magazine, TCT, WHIG-TV, Video Live, UNC Pembroke Campus to Community, CBS 17, The Wilson Daily Times, Rocky Mount Telegram, The Smithfield Herald, and The Daily Herald Chicago, IL.
Dr. Tyson received her Bachelor of Science degree (BSN) in nursing from Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina, a Master of Science degree (MSN) Family Nurse Practitioner at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and her Clinical Doctorate (DNP) in mental health at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
In her spare time, she loves reading, playing tennis, hiking, writing, and singing.
